Over the past weeks, months or even years, you may have spotted just like me this striking cuboid pattern. It encompasses both contemporary and traditional settings and seems to have appeared mostly on the floor but now in many designs and products around us too.

Did you know that this classic tessellation pattern giving the appearance of 3-dimensional steps and cubes harks back to Greek and Roman times ( it appeared for instance in Pompeii or in St Mark’s Basilica in Venice) and that it isn’t just a brand new, pixellated logo created by the likes of the fashionable shoe and accessory maker Pierre Hardy for instance or even the late interior designer Andrée Putman?

A-Gent of Style has put his Sherlock hat and cape on and here are his finds – some of which are holiday snaps he had forgotten about – on this enigmatic pattern that has infiltrated our design-hungry lives.

As I mentioned in my last post Rather Book-ish, the Book of Mormons is running at the Prince of Wales Theatre. Originally established in 1884, the theatre was rebuilt in 1937 by Robert Cromie, an art deco architect, because its seating capacity wasn’t sufficient. The theatre was grade II listed by English Heritage in April 1999 and was extensively refurbished in 2004 once again to to extend its seating capacity. Here are some of the shots I took the night of the Mormons. I hope you feast your eyes on the art deco splendour as much as I did
