“A LONDONER IN PARIS”: GOING, GOING, GONE

Another trip to Paris, another invitation, another auction. Artcurial has struck again.

A-Gent of Style will be attending the private auction Hermès Vintage next Tuesday, May 21, where hundreds of luxury goods from yesteryear from the Parisian fashion house will go under Artcurial’s hammer.

The star of the show will be the legendary and timeless Birkin Bag commonly referred to these days as ‘The Birkin’, created by Hermès in 1984 and named after the 1960s icon Jane Birkin.

A tri-colored (orange, red, shocking pin) crocodile “Birkin” bag, 35 cm, gilt metal hardware, keyfob & padlock, double handle. Year: 2006. Good general condition (few used marks)

The estimation for this stunning orange and pink 2006 bag is… 40 000 – 50 000 €. Go figure! A-Gent of Style can’t wait to be at the auction next Tuesday where the adrenaline in the room will be undoubtedly soaring!

Jane Birkin and her eponymous bag

The story goes that back in 1981, Birkin was sitting on a plane next to Hermès chief executive and after the contents dropped out of her bag in the headlocker and she bemoaned she couldn’t find a suitable weekend bag she liked, he decided to create a bag just for her. The rest is history. Clever man!

The exhibition will be however open to the public from May 17-20.
